Do you know that for the past 30 years, the rate of global warming has accelerated? The environment is important to us, it determines our survival. Our class has thus taken action as a response to Earth Hour, create awareness about the issue of climate change and inspire people to alleviate some of Earth's sufferings.
Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature, also known as World Wildlife Fund), asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
3 weeks ago, our Service Learning Project Leader, Cheryl, represented our class to participate in the Earth Hour Roadshow at Wisma Atria, selling Earth Hour T-shirts and other WWF merchandise. She helped to promote Earth Hour (27th March) during the Roadshow (20th March) by giving out postcards, which was largely mistaken by the public as a movie publicity event. Another surprising fact was, only 1 out of 6 Singaporeans knew what "Earth Hour" is truly about, despite the event being advertised at such a large scale where posters can even be seen pasted at various bus-stops. Here are some photos of the event.
